Velangadu Crematorium goes the organic way for green Chennai

Anna Nagar based Indian Community Welfare Organisation (ICWO) with the support of Chennai Corporation has upgraded the services for the users in the Velankadu Crematorium in order to protect the sacredness of the place. On an average every day around 250 to 300 kg of flower garland reached Velangadu Crematorium. It is a difficult task for the staff to clean up the spacious premises. Now, ICWO has started to make use the flowering plants in order to convert it into organic manure.

At present ICWO has planned 65 trees and maintained about 125 green flower pots at Velangadu Crematorium. The manure produced is used for the plants and the trees at Velangadu Crematorium. A.J.Hariharan, Founder Secretary, ICWO stated that thanks goes to Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Information and Training Centre, Chennai. Indian Community Welfare Organisation is well know non profit, non Governmental, social work organisation which is working on various developmental initiatives in specific focus to women and children for the past 21 years in Chennai.
