Some subways in Chennai city are extremely busy and crowded, especially during morning and evening peak hours. One such subway is the Choolaimedu subway which is used by motorists to reach Anna Nagar, Poonamallee High Road and Koyambedu. Choolaimedu has now become a hub for commercial interests and connects two of the busiest routes in Chennai, namely Arcot Road and Nelson Manickam Road Motorists, pedestrians have a difficult time passing through the subway and crossing the road.
During peak hours there is a long row of vehicles moving under the subway at a snail’s pace. Share autos at the signal junction block free movement of vehicles. There is also increase in traffic movement along Choolaimedu High Road towards Nungambakkam College Road and Harrington road subway. Better regulation will help in easing congestion at Choolaimedu area.
